Mykola Gnatiuk (Ph.D., Dr. Habil) is a researcher and Jean Monnet professor with more than 18 years of teaching and professional experience. He has been invited to contribute to a number of national and international projects which are sponsored by international players and involve internationally renowned academics e.g. TEMPUS project on Innovating Teaching and Learning of European Studies; Support to the Implementation of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement Phase I&II.

Dr. Gnatiuk research has been recognized at local and international conferences and awarded a number of research grants and fellowships, e.g. President of Ukraine’s Grant for scientific achievements (2018), Petro Mohyla Award for outstanding scientific achievements in social science (2017), prestigious Jean Monnet Chairs “Integration as security” (2017-2020) and “EU regional security role: strengthening awareness within Ukraine (EU-Sec, 2021-2023).

Dr. Gnatiuk is cofounder of the Intranational Relations program at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and a founder of the first chair in EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies in Ukraine. Dr. Gnatiuk has been an expert and adviser at the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration (Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine) and has built up extensive networks with key stakeholders in various public and civil sectors. He is also increasingly visible in the media, an important part of academic outreach having been interviewed for national TV and radio stations.

The Chairholder has a long teaching carrier with a focus on European Studies. He teaches a number of courses at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” - “Foreign policy of the European Union”, “European Security Studies”, “Foreign policy and European integration of Ukraine”, “European Studies” and has been a visiting professor at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany). His teaching and research reflect a strong interest in the foreign policy and security dimension of European integration.

Dr. Gnatiuk’s research interests include EU actorness, European Security, and EU-Ukrainian relations (Ph.D. thesis: Russian Geostrategy towards Ukraine (1991 – 2008) (2009); D. Sc. thesis: Political actorness of the European Union (institutional and normative variables of Lisbon model) (2016). The recent book by Dr. Gnatiuk is “Security and Integration: European Pursuit of Peace. (2021). He actively contributes to a public debate on European integration by publishing analytical articles explaining the legislation in the framework of the Association Agreement implementation Road Map. He is also a member of the International Studies Association.
